Do Ghana launches Odum, a new way to experience the story of Ghana

An invitation to do Ghana, deeply.

As Ghana marks its 70th independence anniversary, DO GHANA takes the national story onto the road through the WangoWango Go Ghana treks and journeys platform with ODUM — The Story of Ghana, a new travelling storytelling experience designed to take people deeper into Ghana through travel, storytelling, film, radio, food, conversation and discovery, exploring the country through its places, people, landscapes, histories and everyday life.

An invitation to do Ghana, deeply, ODUM is for Ghanaians discovering more of their own country, people returning to reconnect with home, the African diaspora and visitors looking for a deeper encounter with Ghana. At the heart of ODUM is a simple proposition:

Go Outside.

Do Ghana.

Find Your Centre.

Whether encountered through birth, migration or choice, Ghana becomes a place to enter, explore and discover. ODUM encourages everyone who has encountered Ghana in one way or another to go into the country and experience its living landscapes. Rather than telling the country’s story from a classroom, studio or museum, ODUM follows the roads, landscapes and communities where those stories unfolded. A town, a road, a name, a meal, a building or a conversation can become a doorway into a much larger story.

As part of the DO GHANA domestic tourism movement’s year-long ODUM — The Story of Ghana initiative, the inaugural Go Ghana Road Journey is conceived as a 14-day, multi-landscape road expedition and documentary experience, travelling through five distinctive regions of the country: Mountain Country, Ancestral Outback, Rainforest Mid-Belt, Western Wilds and Atlantic Coast.

DO GHANA describes ODUM as a “roadcast” — a travelling story told from the road. A scribe, film crew, radio team, hosts and kitchen travel together, gathering stories and encounters and turning the experience into a continuing multimedia story.

ODUM has the spirit of a giant treasure hunt. Travellers set out with questions: What happened here? Who lived here? Why does this place matter? What have we forgotten? What might we discover next? The journey connects familiar chapters of Ghana’s story with the people, places and details that may have been hiding in plain sight.

The story will travel beyond the road through Joy FM, Joy Prime, MyJoyOnline, BENTSIFI Traveller at Business & Financial Times, film, radio, social media and live events, creating an evolving body of stories from across the country.

ODUM. The Story of Ghana.
