UNICHEM Ghana Group Brings over 600 Doctors Together for CPD Webinar on Diabetes; Launches Reduglyze-M in Partnership with LUEX Healthcare
UNICHEM GHANA GROUP, in partnership with LUEX Healthcare, has convened over 600 Doctors for a CPD-accredited scientific webinar focused on advancing diabetes management in Ghana.
The session, themed “Achieving Comprehensive Diabetes Management: The Role of Combination Therapy,” drew clinicians both in person and via a nationwide hybrid platform , underscoring the urgency surrounding Ghana’s rising diabetes burden.
The lecture was delivered by Professor Ernest Yorke, President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), and moderated by Pharm. Frank Fifii Agyepong.
A Silent Epidemic in Ghana
Diabetes is no longer rare. It is increasingly being diagnosed in younger adults , and even people in their 30s and 40s.
Health experts estimate that hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians are living with diabetes, with many unaware of their condition until complications arise. In fact:
- A significant number of cases remain undiagnosed.
- Poorly controlled diabetes is a leading cause of kidney failure.
- It is one of the major contributors to stroke and heart disease.
- It remains a primary cause of preventable limb amputations in Ghana.
Even more concerning is that many patients struggle to maintain long-term blood sugar control due to late treatment intensification or inconsistent follow-up.
It is against this backdrop that the CPD session led by Professor Yorke delivered a masterclass in practical, evidence-based diabetes care that resonated deeply with clinicians across the country.

Practical Solutions for Clinicians
The webinar addressed evolving treatment pathways and the importance of initiating effective combination therapy early , rather than waiting for complications.
Participants described the session as practical and timely, particularly given the increasing number of complex diabetes cases presenting in clinics nationwide.
Launch of Reduglyze-M
A major highlight was LUEX’s introduction of Reduglyze-M, a Vildagliptin and Metformin combination.

The product expands UNICHEM’s diabetes portfolio and aligns with guideline-supported strategies for improving glycaemic control while supporting long-term patient safety.
Commitment Beyond Commercial Interests
Speaking after the event, Jason Nana Yaw Mohan (Director of the Group) emphasized that chronic disease management is not only a medical issue but an economic one.
He referenced his recent address at the African Business Summit, where he spoke on the importance of healthcare resilience as a foundation for Africa’s economic growth.
“At the African Business Summit, I spoke about a simple truth: no nation can achieve lasting prosperity without a strong and resilient healthcare system. Economic transformation does not stand on industry alone , it stands on the health of its people.
Diabetes is one of the quiet threats to that foundation. It diminishes workforce potential, strains family resources, and steadily increases the financial demands on national health systems. Left unaddressed, it weakens the very engine of growth.
When 600 doctors gather to deepen knowledge and strengthen clinical practice, it represents more than professional development , it is an investment in Ghana’s future. It is capacity building at a national level.”

Chief Superintendent Pharmacist E.K. Effah who has been with Unichem Group for over 30 years added that the company’s focus extends beyond product launches to strengthening pharmacovigilance systems, medical education platforms, and long-term collaboration with Ghana’s clinicians.
Strengthening Trust Within the Medical Fraternity
UNICHEM has operated in Ghana for decades and continues to position itself as a trusted healthcare partner.
Through LUEX Healthcare, the company has placed increasing emphasis on chronic disease management, structured scientific engagement, and reinforcing trust within the medical fraternity.
As non-communicable diseases continue to rise across Africa, initiatives such as this CPD webinar signal a growing alignment between medical professionals and responsible pharmaceutical partners in safeguarding patient health.
