The Second Edition of Celebrating Strength, Leadership and Progress

Accra, 11 March 2025—Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra proudly hosted the second edition of Inspiring Women at Kempinski, a thought-provoking panel discussion in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025. This year’s event, held under the theme ‘Accelerating Action for Gender Equality’, brought together distinguished speakers, corporate executives, students and industry professionals for an engaging conversation on breaking barriers, fostering inclusion and driving meaningful change.

With over 100 attendees from corporate institutions, media and tertiary institutions, the event provided a platform for candid discussions on gender equality, leadership and empowerment.

The keynote address was delivered by Dzigbordi Kwaku-Dosoo, CEO of DCG Consulting Group, who set the tone for the day by emphasising that breaking gender barriers requires confidence, resilience and bold action. She challenged women to step into leadership with conviction and embrace their power to drive change.

Reflecting on the importance of this event, Hanno Barkhoff, General Manager of Kempinski Gold Coast City Accra, in his opening statement, shared:

‘At Kempinski, we believe that diversity in leadership creates stronger, more dynamic workplaces. Events like these are not just about conversations—they are about creating real impact. It is our responsibility to ensure that gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality in our industry. and beyond.’

The panel discussion featured an esteemed lineup of thought leaders and industry trailblazers, including Claudia Lumor, Publisher & Founder, Glitz Africa Magazine; Afi Amoro, CEO, Jandel Ltd.; Roberta Talata Maldima-Provencal, CEO, Talata Ghana; Vivian Kai Lokko, Head of Business & News, Citi FM & Channel One TV, Omni Media; Isabel Ibarra Serrano de Haro, Deputy Head of Missions, Embassy of Spain to Ghana and Togo and Kojo Soboh, Executive Director, EMY Africa. The Inspiring Women at Kempinski event also provided a platform for their very own Kempinski team members to share their journeys, challenges and triumphs. Gladys Awotwe-Pratt, Training Manager, Belinda Pappoe, member of the engineering team and Tabitha Elonga, Lady in Red, sharing their experiences of excelling in male-dominated roles and navigating challenges while maintaining high standards of service delivery.

A key highlight of the discussion was the call for men to be active participants in the push for gender equality. Kojo Soboh, Executive Director of EMY Africa, challenged men to go beyond passive support and instead become pioneers in the movement for equity.

‘Men must be more than allies. We must be active participants in the fight for gender equality. Real change happens when we use our voices and platforms to uplift women, challenge biases and open doors for equal opportunities’, Kojo emphasised.

His message reinforced the idea that achieving true gender equality is not solely a women’s issue but a collective effort that requires the active involvement of all genders.

One of the most memorable moments came from Nasbah Gbinniya, a student with special needs from Klicks Foundation, whose melodious performance captivated the audience. Her voice was more than just a song, it symbolised inclusion, talent and the power of opportunity.

As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, Kempinski Gold Coast City Accra remains dedicated to providing equal opportunities, mentorship and platforms that empower women.

The second edition of the Inspiring Women at Kempinski event was not just a celebration but a call to action, to continue accelerating gender equality through advocacy, mentorship and deliberate action.
