Fundraiser for Neonatal Incubators and Monitors

Every baby deserves a fighting chance. Donate to our fundraising campaign
to provide incubators and monitors for the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital.
The Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital (PMLCH) was inaugurated in 1926 by its namesake, Her Highness Princess Marie Louise, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
PMLCH’s Newborn Care Unit (NICU), on the other hand, was established in 2018 to meet the increasing demand for specialised neonatal care in the region. Since its inception, the unit has been a beacon of hope for countless families, providing critical care to newborns with complex health needs, particularly premature babies, those with low birth weight, and those suffering from hypothermia and asphyxiation.
The NICU has grown both in capacity and expertise since 2018. However, resource limitations continue to pose challenges, particularly in neonatal equipment.
Currently, the unit has only four (4) operational units with no monitors. This is far below the required number to adequately serve the neonatal population in Accra and its environs.
The inadequacy of incubators has serious implications such as:
- Increased neonatal morbidity and mortality due to lack of thermal support.
- Overcrowding and the risk of cross-infection.
- Inability to provide individualised care.
- Staff burnout due to the strain of improvising care.
With the purchase of five (5) neonatal incubators with five (5) monitors, neonates at the PMLCH will receive essential care, specifically:
- Thermal regulation for premature and low birth weight babies.
- Protection from infection and excessive handling.
- Monitoring of vital signs and controlled oxygen delivery.
The NICU at Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital stands as a critical lifeline for neonates in Ghana.
